Financial Accountant

The University of Nevada, Reno is recruiting for a Financial Accountant in the Controller’s Office.  This position, reporting to the Assistant Controller, is responsible for the University’s daily and monthly reporting functions, including special requests for information and one-time reports, as well as oversight of the accounts reconciliation function.  The position assists with the preparation of year-end financial statements and interacts with university system and independent auditors regarding the preparation of those statements and related reports.  Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Oversee the testing of new Workday accounting functionality and researching and resolving any errors.
  • Conduct training for campus users relating to various accounting topics and general accounting policies and procedures.
  • Assist with Capital Asset and CIP monthly reconciliations and review of expenses to ensure amounts are properly capitalized.
  • Assist with the university’s recharge program, including approval of recharge rates for cost centers in accordance with federal regulations and providing guidance to university departments on recharge issues.
  • Quarterly analytical review of changes in revenues and expenses to ensure proper accounting
  • Assist with preparation of the university’s annual financial statements related reports and footnotes, including addressing independent auditor questions and requests for information.
  • Oversee the university’s reporting functions, including hands-on preparation of required yearly federal, state and university reporting, as well as monthly internal management reports.

Required Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree and five (5) years of related professional work experience; OR a Master’s Degree and three (3) years of related professional work experience

Related Experience: professional experience in a college or university, non-profit or governmental accounting environment

Preferred Qualifications: Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and/or Masters of Business Administration (MBA)
