Topic: Modern Post-ACA Employee Benefits World
Learn about some of the different, challenging and most critical calculations in the modern post-ACA employee benefits world. We will identify and discuss concepts, and explain the logic behind some of the most important employee health benefits calculations an accountant working with employers should know. We will discuss employer size calculations for COBRA, Medicare primary/secondary payer status, and ACA Applicable Large Employer (ALE status). From there, we'll dive deeper into ACA by looking at calculations for Full Time Equivalents (FTEs), employee affordability, ACA reporting figures, Medical Loss Ratio payouts, and more.
Paul Roberts is the Compliance Manager at the Word & Brown General Agency, a leader in distributing health benefit plan models and solutions to individuals and businesses in partnership with health insurance brokers. Paul is responsible for leading Word & Brown’s educational initiatives and provides oversight to the compliance team in California and Nevada. Paul is a tenured veteran in the health insurance industry, carrying a long history of experience in employee benefits and an education in business management. He has performed nearly every operational role at Word & Brown General Agency in his nearly fourteen-year tenure, and is passionate about education and keeping health insurance brokers and employers in-line with compliance. Paul can be found at many industry events across California and Nevada delivering CE, HRCI & SHRM courses, educating health insurance brokers and employers, educating himself, and advocating for benefits professionals and employers. This gives Paul the best ability to innovate and improve Compliance resources and develop educational material to support employers and benefits brokers alike. Paul is passionate about education, diversity and helping others. He is grateful for his opportunity to support both brokers and employers and is committed to your success.
Alex Sampson is a health insurance broker with Health Benefits Associates here in Reno. He has worked for eight years implementing and managing health insurance plans for small businesses. As a University of Nevada graduate, Alex has strong ties to Reno and is proud to be a local supporter of the Wolf Pack. Alex specializes strictly in health insurance. He is familiar with personal health and Medicare-related insurance products, but the main focus of his work is in small business health insurance plans.
