The Nevada Society of CPAs held its 66th Annual Business Meeting and Awards Ceremony on June 13 at the Bellagio Hotel Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada. NVCPA President, Nikki Kirkhouse,CPA did an outstanding job as emcee for the event.
Kate Gilman, CPA, a founding partner with Ellsworth Gilman & Stout, CPAs in Las Vegas, Nevada, received the highest community service recognition from the NVCPA, the Public Service Award. Kate has volunteered for organizations such as the Habitat for Humanity, Junior Achievement, United Way, Safe Nest and the Community Counseling Center of Southern Nevada. Kate was a 2010 woman of distinction finalist in the category for philanthropy and community service recognize by the National Association of Women Business Owners. Kate was named by the Las Vegas In Business as one of their 40 Under 40 which identifies young and successful business leaders who have distinguished themselves in their profession and community.
Rick Arpin,CPA, was awarded the Outstanding Committee Chair for his work on the Annual Gaming Conference. Rick worked tirelessly to make the Gaming Conference a success Rick has been with MGM Resorts since 2002. Previously, he was with the Las Vegas office of Arthur Andersen, where his audit and consulting clients included many of the major gaming
operators along with technology, healthcare and manufacturing firms. He was also instrumental
in training and firm policy matters related to gaming. Rick also gave the keynote address for the event. He congratulated the newly licensed CPAs for their accomplishment and reminded them of the responsibilities that go with the license that they have earned.
Mike Davis,CPA, NVCPA Treasurer and Elected Member to AICPA Council gave the Treasurer's report and also reported on the NVCPA delegations trip to Washington D.C. where Mike, Barry Herr, Jeff Cooper and Niki Neilon met with the staff of Nevada Congressman and Senators to discuss issues that affect CPAs and thier clients.
