Young Professionals and Emerging Leaders Conference

Thursday, October 25, 2012, the NVCPA’s, Young Professionals Committee, hosted a conference for young professionals and emerging leaders in the northern Nevada area. The Conference, comprising of 14 attendees and 4 speakers, took place at the Bosma Business Center and provided a forum in which attendees were able to develop critical leadership skills.

After a welcome message from Reno Young Professionals Committee Chairman, Teela Hammond, The attendees enjoyed a presentation by Laurel Jackson, CPA, of Kafoury, Armstrong & Co., who taught attendees about Business Development with a presentation entitled “How to market your skills to potential clients as well as employers”.

Jackson’s presentation flowed nicely into a presentation by Paula Lawrence on business etiquette. Lawrence entertained attendees by asking questions and doing demonstrations of both a proper handshake and proper business card exchange.
After lunch, Jeanne Yamamura CPA, MIM, PhD gave attendees a look into generational differences and how to handle them in the work place. Her presentation concluded with two real world scenarios which attendees were asked to analyze and provide a possible solution.

Donny C. Shimamoto, CPA.CITP, CGMA of IntrapriseTechKnowlogies LLC, concluded the day with a presentation on CPA Horizon 2025, in which he advised attendees on what research says to expect in the accounting future.
