CPA
Foundation for Education and Research
Helping Advance the
Study of Accounting
Founded in 1969,
the Nevada CPA Foundation for Education
and Research was formed to engage in accounting education, research in
the field of accountancy, and to assist qualified individuals in the
study of accounting.
Scholarship Program
The work
the Foundation accomplishes is made possible by donations mainly
provided from NSCPA members. Through these donations, in addition to
interest earned, the Foundation is able to provide partial scholarships
to 23 university and community college students every year.
Specifically, the Foundation provides both UNR and UNLV with four
scholarships annually. Additionally, each of Nevada’s four community
colleges receives money toward three scholarships for a total of 12.
Moreover, the Society funds a scholarship to the winner of the annual
math competition held by the Future Business Leaders of America. To
address the 150-hour educational issue, the Foundation is fortunate to
be joined by Camico Insurance Company in a matching fund scholarship.
This matching fund scholarship was established in 2001 for 5th year
Accounting majors at UNR and UNLV. In addition to the scholarships, the
Foundation occasionally funds grant requests. Overall, since 1970, the
Foundation has awarded $377,900 in scholarships and grants.
Foundation Objectives
Today the
NSCPA continues to regard the education of accounting professionals as
an important ingredient to ensure the integrity and success of
tomorrow’s CPAs. That’s why the
Foundation continues to encourage the best and the brightest individuals
in Nevada to become Certified Public Accountants. This is a goal that
grows in importance especially as competition for new talent among all
the professions grows ever intense.
The objectives of
the Foundation are as follows:
1.
Provide
financial incentives to individuals seeking to enter the CPA profession.
2.
Provide
financial support to schools or educators at Nevada educational
institutions that are educating individuals to enter the CPA profession.
3.
Recognize
excellence demonstrated by accounting students in Nevada.
4.
Raise
funds to support programs.
The
Foundation further facilitates the association’s philanthropic efforts.
Through the generous donations of NSCPA members, the Foundation provides
numerous scholarships and other monetary contributions to aid Nevada’s
college students. That is why the
Foundation encourages all members of the NSCPA to participate in its'
activities and to support its objectives throughout their careers and
beyond.
Who
provides the Foundation’s financial support?
NSCPA members make individual contributions promoting the future of the
profession through annual donations. Their donations play an important
role in helping the CPA profession attract the most talented students.
How can You help the
Foundation?
Individuals can make tax-deductible contributions to the Nevada
CPA Foundation for Education and Research. All income goes directly to
fund the scholarship program.
Another way to support
the future of the profession is by naming the
Nevada CPA Foundation
for Education and Research as one of your beneficiaries in your Will.
Think about it – your Will provides you with the opportunity to remember
your profession – that livelihood that ultimately afforded you success,
stature, and fulfillment.
