Twenty-four young professionals and emerging leaders in the Southern Nevada area attended an eight-hour conference that focused on the often overlooked soft-skills needed to succeed in today’s highly competitive global business environment.
The Young Professionals and Emerging Leaders Conference was sponsored by the Nevada Society of CPAs Young Professionals committee and was held in the training room at Johnson Jacobson and Wilcox on October 24, 2012.
The day began with opening remarks from the Committee Chair, Amber Beason. The morning session included an excellent presentation by Jason Griffith from De Joya Griffith on developing business contacts using social media, followed by a crash course in business etiquette from Paula Lawrence, owner of the Keynote Academy.
After a networking lunch the attendees listened to a presentation on the communication styles and their effects in the workplace from Alexia Vernon. The conference concluded with a presentation by Donny Shimamoto, CPA.CITP, CGMA of IntrapriseTechKnowlogies LLC, who gave a thought provoking look into the future of the profession and the need to be prepared for big changes.
